We Can Stop Sinning
1 John 3:4-9: Sin is transgression of Law (Jesus’ Words). Those who are born again have His Word in them and stop sinning.
1 Peter 4:1-2: Those who suffer in the flesh have ceased from sin and live according to the will of God.
Jude 24: Jesus is able to keep us from falling and present us blameless.
1 John 5:18: Those who are born again do not sin.
Anyone who reads the scriptures and takes them for what they say can clearly see that we must stop sinning. If this is the case this means it is possible to stop sinning. God would not command us to do something that we cannot do. Not to mention, it is Him who gives us power to do so, so we have absolutely no excuse. It is written: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me… people quote this but say they cannot stop sinning. It is written Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and those who sin are of the devil because the devil has been sinning from the beginning… Clearly sin must stop. The question is, do you believe that through Jesus you can stop sinning and receive eternal deliverance and if yes, are you willing to have faith in Jesus and begin to learn to overcome?
Many use Romans 7 as an excuse to why they cannot stop. In Romans 7:14 Paul was giving a testimony on being sold under sin, in Romans 6 he made it clear we have a choice who we give ourselves as slaves to (Romans 6:16). In Romans 7:17, he said it was not him but the sin in him doing it, yet John testified Jesus takes away our sins and in Him is no sin… This is why when we continue into Romans 8:1, Paul’s tone changes and he says there is no condemnation for those in Christ, John said those in Christ (who abide in Him) do not sin (1 John 3:6). In Romans 8 Paul explains how to overcome Romans 7, saying to mortify the evil deeds of the body through the Spirit (Romans 8:13-14). The LORD is that Spirit and again John said He came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8). Nowhere in the Bible does it justify staying in sin. The testimony is overcoming sin through Christ Jesus and His sin destroying power.
1 John 1:8 says that those who say they have no sin are liars. Many use this to make excuse for sin and say we cannot stop, and if we say we can or have stopped we are liars and therefore in sin... What 1 John 1 says in context is that the blood of Jesus cleanses us of all sin, if we say we have no sin we are liars… why? Because God sent His Son because of our sins and if we confess [repent of] those sins He will cleanse us, cleanse means to purge or remove… That’s why it says later if we say we have not sinned we make God a liar. So now being a sinner, when we come to Jesus and are cleansed, have our sins taken away and now follow Him and obey Him and stop sinning, we are to have the testimony that we have ceased from sin and do not sin like the rest of 1 John says (1 John 2:3-6, 3:4-9 and 5:18). To accuse one of sin because they testify of sinless perfection (which we are suppose to have) and say they are in sin for saying they have stopped or can stop, is hypocrisy. If you believe we cannot stop sinning, why correct one who says we can stop, while you say we can't and accuse them of sin? Just leave them alone, you don't believe we can stop anyway... People defend what the love, many make excuses for sin simply because they love their sin, so they defend it in hypocrisy. Those who are lying are those who say they know Jesus, have salvation and on their way to heaven but do not obey Jesus, they continue to sin, knowing the truth about sin: (Hebrews 10:26-31, 1 John 2:3-6, John 17:3).
What it Means to be Perfect
Matthew 5:48: Jesus commanded us to be perfect as our Father in Heaven is perfect.
1 Peter 5:10: After suffering a little while, God perfects us.
Philippians 3:11-15: Paul testified he had not received perfection as in ended the race, but was perfect morally.
Luke 6:40: Those who are fully trained [perfected] are like their teacher (Jesus Christ).
We are commanded to be perfect. Many hear this and get uneasy. The testimony of the New Covenant in the Scriptures has two main contexts of perfection. One is the resurrection/glorification where we become immortal and incorruptible, this is when we finish the race completely like Jesus. The other is moral perfection, this is when we mature to a point where we consistently obey Jesus and reject the enemy, self and this world. This is where we live just like how Jesus lived. In order to finish the race and be perfected as in glorified, we must grow and maintain moral perfection by obeying Jesus and living according to the desire of the Father until the end. Moral perfection is literally based on how much Jesus has revealed to you and expects from you. Jesus may expect 5 things from one person and expect 20 from another. Perfection is making sure you walk in 5/5 if that’s what is expected or 20/20 if that is what is expected. As we grow, we may have 3/3 and Jesus adds something new, we may start now at 3/4 but we learn to walk in that fourth and be perfect at 4/4. This is part of what it means to grow in Grace and the Knowledge of Jesus Christ. The Bible testifies of 3 blameless people of the Old Covenant: Job, Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth (the parents of John the Baptist). Moral perfection (being blameless) does not mean we have never sinned, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God except Jesus Christ. Being perfect, is coming from the place of disobedience to the place of obedience and being pleasing in God's sight. Jesus started and finished with out ever sinning so He never came from a fallen state. Jesus wiped out our old sins and washed them away so we start on the same playing field. He teaches us a way which is utter perfection, greater than what was expected in times of old, and just like Him through obedience we are perfected as in finish the race. If it was not possible, Jesus would not have been able to do it and He would not have commanded it.
As for being perfect we simply have to obey what Jesus has commanded us and continue to focus on Him and follow Him day by day. Practise makes perfect. Many continue to practice listening to their tempters rather than practising to seek Jesus, submit to God, resist the devil and watch him flee. Many continue to practise listening to other sinning humans and making them their teachers, believe lies and live in those lies. Many practise their old ways and refuse to seek Jesus, receive wisdom and instruction regarding the convictions they are getting; regarding the things they know Jesus is tugging on them about. We are to seek Jesus be trained by Him, have His Words in our heart, His commandments and practise those things. When we do this we will be perfect in His sight. The perfect man does not look desirable to flesh or carnal/natural man. In fact the perfect man is offensive too and hated by the world and especially the religious. Look at Jesus example, He said if they world hates Him, they will hate those who are taught by Him, if the world hates His teachings, they will hate those who are taught by Him who teach the same (John 15:19-20). The world that hated Jesus, most were professing followers of God who is His Father. Nothing has changed today, the world that hates Jesus the most are those who profess to be Christians, yet they refuse to obey His instructions and walk as He walks.
If you want to obey Jesus and stop sinning and be perfect, you must become His disciple you must repent of your sins, and give up your life and start following Jesus. Come to hear His voice, learn to discern who is who, right from wrong and live according to Jesus Words. It all starts with repenting from sin, repenting from obeying the tempters temptations, repent of your old ways, repent of the things of this world and choose to seek and live in the new way Jesus gives you. If you find it hard, ASK Jesus for wisdom and truth, He said: His yoke is easy and His burden is light, John said: His commandments are not heavy. If we believe it's hard or feel sin, our way or this world and the things in are better or feel to good to give up, we simply believe lies. Nothing is that good. Jesus can reveal those lies and give us the Truth that sets us free if we continue in it. We grow into perfection as we practise what He teaches us and live in the truth. As we live in His commandments, fighting the enemy suffering in the flesh for a season, it's Jesus who spiritually physically changes us that we are not even enticed by temptation any more, though we are bombarded and attack from every side, we overcome and move forward in victory. This is the Good News that Jesus has brought to us, this is the reign of God: Jesus being complete LORD over our lives and us living in His victory through His Words and reaping the rewards of good works. Anyone who does not believe this has already lost and are still slaves to the enemy, this is why they continue to do his work; they continue to sin and make excuses and teach others to do the same. There is no excuse, Jesus teaches, corrects, empowers and leads, we must believe (invest) and submit to Him.
If You Believe
John 3:16, John 3:36: If you believe in Jesus and the Truth you obey. (John 3:36 KJV has a translation error).
James 2:18-26: If you have faith, if you have belief, you have works to show for it, when you have faith in God your works are doing what He says.
Ephesians 2:8-10: We are saved by Grace (who instructs and teaches) by faith, if we believe we do what the Spirit of Grace teaches us, not our own works.
If we really believe in Jesus, if we really believe in the Word of God, we will do what Jesus the Word of God says. If we do what the Word of God says we overcome and stop sinning. Those who do not obey the Word of God can not stop sinning. It is only through the Word of God Jesus Christ that we have power to overcome, because it is through Him that the works of the devil is destroyed. The problem is many believe the enemies lies, they believe they know Jesus, have faith in Jesus, believe in Jesus and are saved even though they are not receiving from nor obeying the Word of God. It is so bad that many do not even believe we have to stop sinning.
If you believe the testimony of God about His Son: that God has given us everlasting life and that His Son is Life (1 John 5:10-12), if you believe this and desire salvation then you will obey the Son, because it is written that He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him (Hebrews 5:9). If you are still a slave to sin, still on the losing end of the struggle but believe that this testimony is true: That through Jesus we can overcome sin and death and receive eternal life, then my friend the Good News is today you can go to Jesus and repent and receive those commandments of eternal life that are tailor made for you, begin to obey them, receive deliverance and begin to run the race of perfection. You must first believe that through Jesus it is possible, it is not hard, the Bible testifies of it, we must choose life and not death, choosing to accept any sin in our lives is death, the wages of sin is death. Choosing to obey the Word of God Jesus Christ is eternal life. Repent does not mean to feel bad about sin and that's all, this is feeling repentant. To repent is an action, our repentance from sin is complete when the feeling of being repentant, drives us to do something about it and what we do is go to Jesus and begin to follow His new way that sets us free, then give up everything to live in this new way. This is repentance. Many have felt repentant and thought they repented, but continued in the same sins and believed they were saved. How can you be saved from sins you are still living in? Repent people of God, go to Jesus and actually change your ways to the ways He teaches you, instructs you and empowers you to live in, practise and live in the new way. And remember if you stumble or mess up, if sin abounds, Grace much more abounds. This means run back to Jesus and receive correction and instruction to learn from your mistakes and overcome, provision has been made for you, even if you fall, get back up, receive the Grace that pefects.
1 John 3:4-9: Sin is transgression of Law (Jesus’ Words). Those who are born again have His Word in them and stop sinning.
